Imagine the year is 1972. There are no home computers, laptops or video games, no cell phones, email, Facebook, Twitter or tweets. This is the world of Shawn, his twin sister Shannon and best friend Jamal. They don’t need 21st century technology to have fun. They are lucky enough to live on islands accessible only by boat on the southwest coast of Florida. Every day can be a new adventure. The Gulf of Mexico, the inland bays, the countless islands and the hidden channels create a magical wonderland. It is a wonderland of blue sky, crystal clear water, sandy white beaches and an abundance of nature.
History reveals that there were Calusa and Seminole Indians through this area. Spanish explorers sailed these waters and pirates often hid their ships among the many islands and, perhaps, even buried treasure that might still be where they left it. However, the timelessness of the ocean and the tides erases all traces of those who came before. Every place looks and feels just as it has for hundreds of years.
All Shawn, Shannon and Jamal need is a small boat, an outboard motor, a little gas and they have their very own “magic carpet.” Even though they know the history of the area, every time they explore a new island they feel the same excitement all over again. It is easy to believe that they are the very first people to ever set foot there.
Come along for a journey out of the past. It’s summer vacation and with their “magic carpet”, Shawn, Shannon and Jamal are set to begin having the most fun and best adventures of their young lives. Little do they know that their adventures will put them into situations much more serious and dangerous than anything they could have imagined.
Come with them where the beauty of a tropical paradise collides with the evil of greed. By the end of the summer much of their innocence will turn to maturity and their lives will have changed forever.

I gave this book 5 stars because it is for everyone who loves or is interested in the water, fishing and well everything to do with growing up near water. It would make a great read for parents and their kids so they could discuss all that this book has to offer (which is a lot!)Product details

I loved the three young characters, the descriptions of the various locales, and the flow of the story. The author captures the kind of summer adventures that very few youngsters get to experience any more.
A lovely and well written story about a summer of adventures through the eyes of three friends in the unique Florida Keys. Would recommend for any young person and adult for that matter! Loved it!
All in all, a delightful little story
